Haifa Cold Smoked Salmon, Seabass Listeria Recall

Haifa cold-smoked salmon and cold-smoked seabass have been recalled for Listeria. On September 16, Haifa Smoked Fish of Jamaica, NY, issued a recall for the smoked fish products after state agriculture officials informed the company that Listeria was detected in samples of each product.

Haifa Listeria Recall for Cold-smoked Salmon, Sea Bass

Product samples collected from stores were tested by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ Food Inspectors. Two products tested positive for Listeria.

  • Haifa Cold-smoked Salmon, 8 oz, Lot 219
  • Haifa Cold-smoked Sea Bass, 8 oz, LOT 212

Symptoms of a Listeria Infection

Listeria symptoms usually develop within one to 14 days of exposure, but sometimes it can take as long as 10 weeks for them to develop. They include:

  • Severe headache
  • HIgh fever
  • Stiff neck and other muscle aches
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • Convulsions

Pregnant women can suffer miscarriage or stillbirth even if they only have mild, flu-like symptoms. At the time of the recall, the company said it was not aware of any illnesses.
