On July 16, Chetek Group issued a recall for frozen sprouted mat and moong beans. The recall was issued in connection with a multistate Salmonella outbreak. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discovered the problem through product testing. Whole genone sequencing tests revealed that the Salmonella strain found in the bean has caused illnesses. The company has temporarily suspended production of these products.

The warning is based on recent product tests that were positive for Salmonella. Further tests determined that the strain of Salmonella found in this product matches the strain causing illnesses.
Symptoms of a Salmonella Infection
Symptoms of a Salmonella infection usually develop within six to 72 hours and include:
- Fever
- Nausea
- Abdominal pain
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea that may be bloody
