Symptoms of a Salmonella Infection

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection, which include nausea, fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, usually develop within six to 72 hours of exposure and last about a week. Patients who become severely dehydrated or develop a severe infection that moves from the gastrointestinal tract to the bloodstream require hospitalization.
