Legionnaires’ Disease Outbreak at OneLife Fitness in Alpharetta, GA [Updated]

Updated on January 12, 2021 – The Pritzker Hageman water safety lawyers filed the first lawsuit arising from the Legionnaires’ disease outbreak at Onelife Fitness in Alpharetta, GA. Our client contracted Legionnaires’ disease after visiting Onelife Fitness on October 30, 2021, and October 31, 2021, where he was exposed to the gym’s water and air quality system components, including the pool, hot tub, sauna, and showers. During their investigation, Georgia state health officials confirmed that our client was exposed to Legionella bacteria at Onelife Fitness.

Attorneys on Pritzker Hageman’s water safety legal team are investigating a possible outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease that we believe is linked to contaminated water at Onelife Fitness (Crabapple Gym) in Alpharetta, Georgia.  We are currently representing people who were sickened after exposure to aerosolized (fine airborne mist) water droplets. Multiple sickened people have been traced to the Onelife Fitness gym as a location they had in common prior to becoming sick.

Legionnaires’ Lawsuit Has Been Filed Against OneLife Fitness – More Lawsuits Likely

Aerosolized water contaminated with Legionella bacteria can lead to extremely dangerous, often deadly, legionella pneumonia. This type of water contamination is not allowed and a lawsuit has been filed against the owner of Onelife Fitness Gym located at 12315 Crabapple Road in Alpharetta, GA. Georgia Health Department investigators have indicated that multiple people have been sickened in this outbreak and we expect additional lawsuits to be filed.

What is Legionnaires’ Disease?

Legionnaires’ disease is a very serious lung disease caused by exposure to Legionella bacteria. Legionnaires’ disease almost always starts with a serious case of pneumonia (a lung infection) but can also lead to kidney damage, heart damage, and sepsis (a very dangerous blood infection).

Legionella bacteria multiply fastest in warm water and can be found in hot tubs, cooling towers, hot water tanks, fountains and the plumbing systems of large buildings.

When water contaminated with Legionella bacteria goes into the air as a mist or aerosol people can easily breath it in and become sick. Symptoms of a Legionnaires’ disease infection include high fever, shortness of breath, a cough, muscle aches, and headaches and typically show up 2-14 days after exposure.
