Semi Crash Kills Teenage Girl Near Red Wing, MN

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that a teenage girl died in a semitrailer crash near Red Wing over the weekend. 17-year-old Karina R. Gonzalez-Baltazar of Lake City, MN was a passenger in her family’s SUV when it was struck by a semi on Hwy 61.

The accident happened on Friday, February 22 shortly before 4:30 pm. Traveling southbound on Hwy 61, the semi struck the SUV as it attempted to turn from Hwy 61 onto E. 7th Street. Roads were dry at the time, all involved wore seat belts and alcohol was not a factor. Three other people in the SUV, driver Fidelina Gonzalez (35) and passengers Beverly Gonzales (12) and Junior Gonzalez (11), went to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for treatment of internal and external injuries. A Go Fund Me account was set-up to help the injured children and their single mother. The semi driver escaped injury.
