Recall of Toy Sets that Expand in Water

Polymer toy products that expand in water can grow from the size of a bead to the size of a racket ball. It may be fun for children to watch this happen, but at least one child swallowed one of these products and had to have surgery to remove it. This has prompted recalls of the following products:

  • Monster Science Growing Spider toy set;
  • Monster Science Colossal Water Balls;
  • Super Star Science! Colossal Water Balls;
  • Cosmo Beads Jumbo Size Colorful Water Balls; and
  • Jumbo Multipurpose Colorful Water Balls.

If a child swallows a spider egg or water ball from one of these sets, surgery will be necessary to remove the product.  It is possible that the child could choke to death if it lodges and grows in the esophagus.

Parents whose children are injured or killed by one of these recalled products have the right to sue the manufacturers, importers, distributors and others for personal injury or wrongful death.

“These toys look like candy, are initially small enough to swallow, grow to dangerous diameters and are marketed to children,” said attorney Fred Pritzker. “They should never have been sold to unsuspecting parents. Most people assume if something is sold it is safe. That is not the case with these water-absorbing toys.”

Our law firm recently won settlements for children injured by toys they had swallowed. You can contact Fred for a free consultation if your child has been injured by this or any other product.
