Senior Home Resident Contracts Legionnaires’ Disease

A resident of a senior home has been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease, a form of pneumonia caused by breathing in water mist contaminated with Legionella bacteria. Health officials have not found evidence that the resident contracted the illness at the nursing home.

According to county health officials, this is an isolated case of Legionnaires’ disease. said the illness is an isolated case. “At the present time, we have no reason to believe the facility was the source,” said a spokesman for the county. “We’ll continue to monitor things.”

The senior home is running voluntary tests of its water.
