Women who had stress urinary incontinence (SUI) or pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery are coming forward to tell their stories of life-altering pain allegedly caused by the vaginal mesh products.  The FDA has received thousands of reports of serious injury associated with certain vaginal mesh products:

The most frequent complications reported to the FDA for surgical mesh devices for POP repair include mesh erosion through the vagina (also called exposure, extrusion or protrusion), pain, infection, bleeding, pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia), organ perforation, and urinary problems. There were also reports of recurrent prolapse, neuro-muscular problems, vaginal scarring/shrinkage, and emotional problems. Many of these complications require additional intervention, including medical or surgical treatment and hospitalization.

Attorneys Fred Pritzker and David Szerlag are representing some of these women in vaginal mesh recall lawsuits against manufacturers. “Our clients are seriously injured and are seeking compensation for revision surgery, other medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, disability, emotional distress, loss of quality of life and other lawful damages,” said Fred Pritzker. Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Stress Urinary Incontinence

Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) occurs when the pelvic organs drop (prolapse) because the tissue and muscles of the pelvic floor no longer support them. The pelvic organs include the vagina, cervix, uterus, bladder, urethra, and rectum. The bladder is the most commonly involved organ in pelvic organ prolapse. (Read about prolapse surgery mesh lawsuits.)

With stress urinary incontinence (SUI), urine leaks out through the urethra when the woman coughs, sneezes, laughs or exercises. This is caused by weak pelvic and tissue muscles that are unable to prevent the bladder “neck” from descending during bursts of activity, the descent of which prevents the urethra from controlling the flow of urine.
