What is Iritis?

Iritis is inflammation of the iris. It is also referred to as anterior uveitis. Iritis can cause pigment dispersion, also referred to as transilluminating iris depigmentation. The pigment dispersion causes sensitivity to light and can cause increased eye pressure, which can lead to glaucoma and vision loss. We have clients with such severe light sensitivity that they are not able to participate in outdoor activities.

Iritis symptoms include the following:

  • eye redness, often seen as a bluish-pink color in the white of your eye (sclera) around the iris;
  • discomfort or achiness in the affected eye;
  • sensitivity to light (photophobia);
  • blurred vision; and
  • floating spots in your vision (eye floaters).
