DePuy ASR Lawsuit: Jury Verdict of $8.3 Million for Defective Hip Implant

Update: These cases have settled.

Pritzker Hageman attorneys are representing dozens of DePuy ASR patients. ”

This jury verdict is a victory for all DePuy ASR patients who have suffered pain, loss of quality of life, and emotional distress,” said Fred, who recently won $45 million for clients injured by another defective client.

J&J recalled 93,000 of the DePuy ASR hip implants in August 2010. At that time, the company said 12 percent failed within five years. However, doctors in Australia have reported that 44 percent failed within seven years.

“The verdict will set a ‘starting price’ for other plaintiffs in settlement discussions,” Erik Gordon, a University of Michigan business professor, told Bloomberg. “Most plaintiffs will get more sympathy from jurors than Mr. Kransky elicited,” Gordon said in an e-mail. “A jury somewhere is going to hit the company with huge punitive damages to send a message that J&J refuses to hear.”

The case is Kransky v. DePuy, BC456086, California Superior Court, Los Angeles County (Los Angeles).
