Big Y, Price Chopper Sandwiches Listeria Alert

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS) has issued a public health alert for chicken and bacon sandwich wraps that may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The agency issued a public health alert instead of requesting a recall from Rachael’s Food Corporation of Chicopee, MA, because the sandwiches are past their “sell-by” dates.

Symptoms of a Listeria infection can appear within 24 hours of eating contaminated food, but sometimes they can take as long as 70 days to appear. These infections can cause severe illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage or stillbirth.

Consumers who ate these sandwiches should monitor themselves for Listeria symptoms including:

  • High fever
  • Severe headache
  • Stiff neck
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea

Pregnant women can suffer a miscarriage or stillbirth even if they only experience mild flu-like symptoms.

Big Y and Price Chopper Sandwich Wrap Recall

The chicken and bacon ranch sandwich wrap products were sold at Big Y and Price Chopper. They were produced on May 2, 2025, and had sell-by dates of May 7, 2025, and had the following product information:

Big Y Quick Easy Meals Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap

  • 10-oz. clear plastic clamshell packages, lot code 25122.

Market 32 by Price Shopper Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap

  • 10-oz. clear plastic clamshell packages, lot code 25122.

The products, which had the establishment number “P34657” inside the USDA mark of inspection, became the subject of a public health alert after a state public health department found Listeria in a product sample.

Previous Listeria Recall

This is not the first time sandwich wraps produced by Rachael’s Food Corporation have been tainted with Listeria. In 2022, the company issued a Listeria recall for sandwich wraps. That recall, for 2,246 pounds of sandwich wraps, was issued after USDA FSIS found Listeria in a product sample during a follow-up visit after it had found Listeria in a product during routine sampling.
