A Legionnaires’ disease outbreak at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino includes at least two guests who stayed at the hotel within the last 12 months, according to the Southern Nevada Health District.
Legionnaires’ disease is a severe, often fatal, form of pneumonia. People get it when they inhale water mist that is contaminated with Legionella bacteria which grow best in warm water of manmade structures such as commercial plumbing systems, fountains, and hot tubs. It is not contagious. Tests on environmental samples collected from the hotel were positive for Legionella.

Most people who get Legionnaires’ disease require hospitalization. About 10 percent of cases are fatal. Symptoms of Legionnaires’ disease are similar to the flu. They include:

These symptoms usually appear within two weeks of exposure. Guests who stayed at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino between August 1 and August 23 and developed these symptoms within 14 days of the stay should see a doctor and mention exposure to Legionella. All cases should be reported to the Southern Nevada Health District.
Caesars Palace Legionnaires’ Disease Outbreak
The Southern Nevada Health District is investigating the Caesars Palace Legionnaires’ disease outbreak which includes two guests who stayed at the hotel within the last year. After water tests were positive for Legionella, the hotel sanitized and disinfected its water system. The most recent water test was negative for Legionella. The hotel is making an effort to notify guests who may have been exposed to the bacteria during their stays.
