Legionnaires’ disease is transmitted when water vapor containing Legionella bacteria is inhaled. Symptoms of an infection, which is similar to a severe form of pneumonia, include high fever, headache, muscle aches, fatigue and shortness of breath.

The hospital has flushed its plumbing system, has been working with state health officials to improve its water management plan and has put multiple control measures in place to reduce the risk of disease.
