Legionnaires’ disease, a severe form of pneumonia, occurs when water vapor contaminated with Legionella bacteria is inhaled. About 10 percent of cases are fatal.

Symptoms of an infection include fever, cough, chills, headache, muscle aches, and shortness of breath. A less severe form of a Legionella infection is called Pontiac Fever. In this outbreak, 132 people have been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease and eight people have been diagnosed with Pontiac Fever.
