A Legionnaires’ disease outbreak at Pequot Highlands Complex in Salem, MA has sickened two people. After testing found Legionella, the bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ disease, in the building’s water system, water restrictions were put in place.
Legionnaires’ disease, a severe form of pneumonia, results when water vapor contaminated with Legionella bacteria is inhaled. It is not spread through person-to-person contact.
