Civia Hyland Bike Recall after Spinal Injury from Fall

Our law firm is investigating a recall of Civia Hyland bike fender sets. There is one report of a rider falling and suffering a spinal injury in the neck area and nerve damage.

According to Civia Cycles, of Bloomington, Minnesota, the fender mounting bracket can break or bend, posing a fall hazard to the rider. The Twin Cities company has only received the one injury report.

The recalled fenders come in black, blue, green, olive, red and silver. They are round, and have the Civia logo on the front and rear sides. They were made in Taiwan and sold nationwide and online from April 2008 through March 2013 for about $60 per set. The Hyland bicycles come in blue, green, olive and red and have “Hyland” on the top tube and “Civia” on the down. They are priced from $1,200 to $4,500.

Our law firm has helped many people injured by defective products. In one case, our client crushed his leg in a fall and eventually had to have it amputated. He was notified of the defect a few days after the crash.

The damage here involves the spine. We have handled many bicycle accident cases involving this type of harm.

Because bicyclists are so vulnerable on the road, it is critical that manufacturers test products to make sure they are safe. When a product like this can bend and break, one has to question what kind of testing was done and why this problem was not found.
