A Legionnaires’ disease outbreak at Harrah’s Laughlin includes three people who stayed at the hotel in May. All three required hospitalization, two have been released.
Legionnaires’ disease is a severe form of pneumonia that people get when they inhale water vapor contaminated with Legionella bacteria. Legionella are found in nature but grow best in water of manmade structures, including fountains, hot tubs, and the plumbing systems of large buildings.

Harrah’s Laughlin Legionnaires’ Disease Outbreak
After being notified of the illnesses, the Southern Nevada Health District collected environmental samples from the hotel, located at 2900 South Casino Drive in Laughlin. Several samples tested positive for Legionella. Harrah’s Laughlin disinfected its water systems, and Legionella was not detected in recent samples.
Symptoms of Legionnaires’ Disease
Symptoms of Legionnaires’ disease usually appear between two and 10 days of exposure to Legionella. They incude:
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Headaches
