Wisconsin public health officials have linked 35 confirmed cases of Camplyobacter jejuni in southeastern Wisconsin to the consumption of raw milk. On person was hospitalized.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, the onset of illness was Aug. 14-20, 2009.
All the patients had consumed unpasteurized milk. According to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, thirty of the patients identified Zinniker Family Farm in Elkhorn, Wisconsin as the source of the raw milk, and the Campylobacter jejuni isolated from 25 of the patients was linked to Zinniker Family Farm by matching DNA fingerprints. Manure samples obtained directly from milking cows on that farm also tested positive for Campylobacter jejuni with the same DNA fingerprint, according to health officials.
The farm sells raw milk through a “cow-share” program. Twenty-seven of the confirmed cases were in Walworth and Waukesha counties; the rest were in Racine and Kenosha counties.
Our law firm has handled Campylobacter cases involving serious illness, including Guillain-Barré syndrome, a condition in which the body damages its own nerve cells (outside of the brain and spinal cord), resulting in muscle weakness and, in some cases, paralysis.
Campylobacter Lawsuit:
Proving Your Raw Milk Campylobacter Case
Our law firm has represented victims of most major foodborne outbreaks in the United States. Our years of experience have given us an understanding of the following:
- How to use the evidence available to prove your Campylobacter case. We contact federal and state health departments and the CDC to obtain the epidemiological and microbiological testing that was part of the outbreak. We then do our own investigation.
- How to put together a settlement demand based on your story—your occupation, hobbies, family life, and how the Campylobacter infection and all of its complications have affected your life.
- How to fight for the best possible compensation package for you. If we can't settle the case for what we think your case is worth (and we have the experience to know), then we put the case in suit, which means serving court papers on the parties responsible for your illness.
- How to present your case before a jury. Campylobacter lawsuits can be complicated and emotional, particularly when the source was raw milk. We use highly-qualified and respected expert witnesses, detailed graphics describing what happened to your body when the Campylobacter infection sickened you, and evidence of how the Campylobacter has affected your life to argue our case. We prepare every case for trial because we have found that the best way to obtain the best recovery for our clients is to prepare the cases with all of the precision and skill that we have, so the responsible parties understand we are serious about the case and willing to take it to trial.
It sounds like a lot of work, and it is. You should know that you will not have to give us any money up front, and we are not paid unless you win.
