On June 20, 2007, Gills Onions LLC recalled Trader Joe's diced onions and other onions with the lot number "2017-R." These onions were shipped to Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington. Gill's Onions and Trader Joe's Diced Onions Recall Information

Gills Onions LLC has recalled diced yellow onions carrying the Trader Joe's name because they could be contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes. Routine testing by the California Department of Agriculture found Listeria monocytogenes in one bag of Trader Joe's diced yellow onions.

The onions were sold to consumers in 10-ounce bags labeled with the Trader Joe's brand name in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington. The onions were also sold to food service companies in 20-pound cartons labeled as Gills Onions Brand and Sysco Natural Brand. All the packages are printed with a best-if-used-by date of "06/16/07" and a lot number "2017-R."

Because some of the onions were sold to food service companies, anyone who has eaten raw onions at a restaurant or other food establishment in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, or Washington may have been exposed to Listeria. If anyone in these states is diagnosed with listeriosis, they should immediately contact a Pritzker | Ruohonen for a free consultation.
