Truck Driver Rams into Police Cruiser, Killing Officer

A J.B. Hunt driver was driving down Route 17 in New Jersey when he rammed into a police car that was parked on the shoulder of the highway. The semitrailer pushed the car into the retaining wall of a house. The truck then jackknifed and crashed into the same retaining wall, sending truck parts flying, one into the basement of the home, others across the road. The force of this impact led investigators to conclude that the truck driver did not attempt to stop before he hit the police cruiser. The truck driver, who was not injured, had previously worked for New York’s Access-A-Ride, and had been terminated, according to news reports.

Semitrailer Runs Red Light, Causes Severe Head Injuries

A 47-year-old woman suffered debilitating head injuries when a J.B. Hunt Transport truck driver ran a red light, crashed into the woman’s car and then fled the scene of the accident (he later plead guilty to a hit-and-run charge). The impact pushed her car into a pole. Her traumatic brain injuries (TBI) were extensive, including subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding into the subarachnoid space in the brain), concussion, and amnesia (loss of memory).  The truck driver had been hired and fired by J.B. Hunt twice and had a history of safety violations, according to evidence presented at trial in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County (Marina Rivas v. Jeffrey Gaines and J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc., Case No. BC436965).

Students Critically Injured in Bus Accident

Several children were critically injured when a tractor-trailer owned by J.B. Hunt Transport slammed into a school bus Louisiana. At the time of the crash, the bus had its lights flashing and stop signs extended, according to Louisiana State Police. One ambulance driver told reporters that the bumper of the bus was pushed to the rear wheels. With this kind of impact, it is a miracle that none of the children died.
