Zicam Recall
WE ARE NO LONGER TAKING THESE CASES.
PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US ABOUT THE ZICAM RECALL.
Matrixx Initiatives, Inc., aka Zicam LLC, announced a recall of all lots of Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel and Zicam Cold Remedy Gel Swabs on June 16, 2009, after receiving a warning letter from the FDA.
The FDA warning letter stated:
FDA has concluded that these products may pose a serious risk to consumers who use them. Specifically, FDA has received more than 130 reports of anosmia, (loss of sense of smell, which in some cases can be long-lasting or permanent), associated with use of these products.
According to the FDA letter Matrixx has received over 800 reports of smell loss:
In addition to the reports FDA has received directly from consumers, the agency is aware that Matrixx appears to have more than 800 reports related to loss of sense of smell associated with Zicam Cold Remedy intranasal products.
Many of these people have sued Matrixx. Read about a Zicam lawsuit. Our law firm is a Minnesota law firm. Read about Personal Injury Lawyer MN.
Many people state that the loss of sense of smell occurred with the first dose of the Zicam product, although some people report it happened after later doses. The Zicam-related loss of smell appears to be linked to the presence of zinc gluconate, which can damage nerves in the nasal cavity.
