Total Body Formula - Chromium and Renal Failure

URGENT WARNING REGARDING HIGH LEVELS OF SELENIUM AND CHROMIUM IN CERTAIN TOTAL BODY FORMULA PRODUCTS: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that at least 201 people have had confirmed cases of adverse reactions associated with certain “Total Body Formula” and “Total Body Mega Formula” products.  The adverse reactions involved people in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Consumers were first cautioned March 27, 2008 not to purchase and to discontinue the use of "Total Body Formula" in Tropical Orange and Peach Nectar flavors and "Total Body Mega Formula" in the Orange/Tangerine flavor after receiving reports of adverse reactions.

On April 9, 2008, the FDA reported the dietary supplement products contained hazardous amounts of selenium in samples of "Total Body Formula" in Tropical Orange and Peach Nectar flavors and "Total Body Mega Formula" in the Orange/Tangerine flavor. Read about the Total Body Formula recall and a possible lawsuit.

FDA has now found high levels of chromium in certain Total Body Formula products. The samples contained up to 3,426 micrograms of chromium for the recommended serving (17 times the recommended intake). The recommended chromium intake for an adult ranges from 35 to 45 micrograms per day.

Excessive consumption of chromium (chromium poisoning) can cause fatigue, muscle cramps, hyperactivity, hypoglycemia, renal failure and liver toxicity. Excessive chromium intake also can interfere with certain medications.

Compensation for Victims
of Dangerous and Defective Medical Products

A medical is defective if there is a design defect, a manufacturing defect (often too much of an active ingredient) or the labeling and any other warnings are insufficient to warn of risks. The law states that manufacturers must alert consumers to the possible problems and side effects their medical products can cause.

Thousands of people receive injuries from unsafe medical products each year. Those injuries deserve compensation, which can include the following:

  • Economic damages. Compensation for monetary losses such as past and future medical expenses, loss of past and future earnings, loss of employment or business opportunities.
  • Non-economic damages. Compensation for subjective, non-monetary losses such as pain, suffering, inconvenience, emotional distress, loss of society and companionship, loss of consortium, and loss of enjoyment of life.
