Organon NuvaRing Lawsuit

In one case, an otherwise-healthy 32-year-old mother of two died of a pulmonary embolism:

"She was 32-years-old, never sick a day in her life. The only thing she did different was use this NuvaRing," he says.

. . . Jackie had been using NuvaRing for six months. Her autopsy shows the blood clot traveled through her pelvic region and lodged in her lungs. . . .

"We believe the hormones are just as dangerous as other hormones in oral contraceptives. Essentially they are creating these clots," says Carmen Scott, an attorney representing NuvaRing.

Scott says she's handling 50 NuvaRing cases.2

In another case, a 31-year-old mother of two died of a stroke:

Frank Mariconda chased his wife, Rosana, around their suburban New Jersey kitchen for a goodbye kiss. He told her he loved her and left for work.

Just 45 minutes later, on that morning in February 2006, his mother-in-law called in a panic from the couple's new Denville home. She had walked in to find Rosana lying on the bed, dressed for work in her stockings and makeup. Her eyes were open, but she was unresponsive.

Their 2-year-old son, Jake, was putting Band-Aids on his mother's arm.

Paramedics rushed the mother of two to Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Within 24 hours, Mariconda's seemingly healthy 31-year-old wife was dead from a stroke - triggered, he believes, by NuvaRing, a vaginal-insert contraceptive that she had begun using three weeks earlier.3
