Matrixx Initiatives Lawsuit Filed
On June 16, 2009, Matrixx Initiatives, Inc., aka Zicam LLC, announced a recall of all lots of Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel and Zicam Cold Remedy Gel Swabs. The Zicam recall was prompted by an FDA warning letter regarding these Zicam products that stated:
FDA has concluded that these products may pose a serious risk to consumers who use them. Specifically, FDA has received more than 130 reports of anosmia, (loss of sense of smell, which in some cases can be long-lasting or permanent), associated with use of these products.
On July 2, a Zicam lawsuit, Coleman et al v. Matrixx Intiatives, Inc. et al (Case Number 2:09-cv-2838), was filed in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York. The complaint alleges that the claimant permanently lost his senses of smell and taste.
This Matrixx Initiatives lawsuit involving Zicam smell loss is one of several that have been filed in several states.
Our law firm first began our investigation into Zicam smell loss two years ago.
“The adverse affects of zinc have been known for years. This product should never have been put on the market. At the very least, Zicam spray and gel products should have been taken off of the market as soon as reports of smell loss were known by Matrixx Initiatives,” stated attorney Fred Pritzker. “Our law firm is dedicated to holding Matrixx accountable and obtaining compensation for the people who have suffered smell and taste loss.”
