Matrixx Initiatives Class Action Lawsuit
Matrixx Initiatives Class Action Lawsuit Update: Class action lawsuits have been filed against Matrixx Initiatives, maker of Zicam Cold Remedy products, including Zicam swabs and Zicam nasal gel. In June of 2009, Matrixx Initiatives recalled Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel and Zicam Cold Remedy Gel Swabs after it received a warning letter from the FDA.
In California, a Matrixx Initiatives class action lawsuit was filed in federal court on behalf of smell loss victims who had used Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel products.
In Missouri, a Matrixx Initiatives class action lawsuit was filed in St. Louis County Circuit Court on behalf of all residents of St. Louis County who purchased the recalled Zicam products.

Allegations of Smell and Taste Loss
On June 15, 2009, the FDA warned consumers to stop using Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel and Zicam Cold Remedy Gel Swabs after receiving more than 130 reports of Zicam side effects, specifically the loss of the senses of smell and taste. Matrixx Initiatives denied this but still issued a recall of Zicam.
The Zicam class action lawsuits allege that zinc gluconate in the Zicam products destroyed tissue inside the nose, resulting in the loss of smell, which affected the sense of taste.
