Swift Transportation Truck Accident and
Swift Transportation Lawsuit Information
In the two years prior to August 4, 2010, Swift Transportation Co., Inc., a Phoenix, Arizona trucking company was involved in 1,460 accidents, with 447 resulting in injury and 32 resulting in fatalities, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCSA)1.
Below attorneys Fred Pritzker and Eric Hageman inspect a truck that hit and injured their clients.
Examples of Swift Transportation accidents include the following:
- In Texas, a Swift Transportation truck allegedly crossed a highway median and collided with an SUV. The Swift 18-wheeler crash resulted in the death of the driver, his 9-year-old daughter and his mother. The Swift Transportation truck accident lawsuit alleged that Swift was negligent for failing to adequately maintain the tractor-trailer and that the driving logs were falsified. Before the settlement, experts were prepared to testify that the truck's left front wheel was worn and a front-end alignment problem caused the steering wheel to shake. The Swift Transportation wrongful death lawsuit was settled2.
- In Kansas, a Swift Transportation truck collided with a car after running a stop sign. The driver allegedly rolled over three sets of rumble strips that are designed to warn motorists of an approaching stop-sign controlled intersection and only lightly applied the brakes. One man was killed and two people were seriously injured. A jury awarded the family of the man who was killed punitive damages because the trucking company did not produce the driver’s log, documentation that is required to be kept by federal law and that could have proved the driver had been driving more hours than allowed by law3.
- The father of a 16-year-old boy killed in a car-truck accident filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Swift Transportation Co. Inc., the driver of the Swift truck and the driver of the car in which the boy was a passenger. The lawsuit alleges the driver of the Swift tractor-trailer was speeding in violation of traffic laws and failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was otherwise negligent4.
- A Kansas man who was seriously injured in an accident involving a Swift truck was obtained a jury verdict from a federal jury. According to the lawsuit filed against Swift, the man was a passenger in a Yellow Freight tractor trailer that ran into a semi truck operated by a Swift driver. The Swift driver had allegedly backed onto a highway after unsuccessfully making a left turn into a highway rest stop. The accident happened in New Mexico, Swift Transportation, Co., Inc. is a Phoenix, Arizona trucking company and the trial took place in Kansas. The trial uncovered that the Swift driver tested positive for methamphetamines in the post-accident drug test5.
