Schneider National Lawsuit and Accident Information

In the two years prior to August 4, 2010, Schneider National trucks were involved in 945 accidents, with 333 resulting in injury and 26 with fatalities, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)1.

Examples of Schneider National truck accidents include the following:

  • On May 4, 2008 in Gary, Indiana, a woman was allegedly killed when a Schneider National truck rear-ended her van while it was stopped at a red light2.
  • In 2003, in Alabama, a Schneider National driver allegedly fainted at the wheel of his truck and collided with a car, killing the driver of the car. A jury later found Schneider National negligent and awarded the deceased’s family damages (Estate of Anderson v. Schneider National Bulk Carriers, Inc., Circuit Court of Jefferson County (Alabama)).
  • A Schneider truck accident allegedly resulted in traumatic brain injury. In Illinois, an electrical lineman’s arial lift truck bucket was struck by a Schneider National truck while he worked over an intersection, causing him to fall to the ground. The worker suffered severe brain damage and lost leg function as a result of the accident (Miksis v. Howard and Schneider National Carriers, Inc., 106 F.3d 754 (7th Circuit)).
  • In Rock County, Wisconsin, a Schneider National truck allegedly collided with a vehicle in a construction zone intersection. Schneider National paid damages (Calvin v Zahrt, et al., No. 05 CV 653 (Wisconsin)).
  • A semi truck driven by a Schneider National Carriers driver allegedly failed to make a u-turn and ended up blocking the highway. A car collided with the semi truck, killing the driver instantly and injuring her daughter, who sustained head injuries (crushed head) resulting in permanent brain damage (Est. of Laverne N. Zachery v. Schneider National Carriers, Inc. and Truck Insurance Exchange, No. 88-CV-185 (Georgia)).
