  • The owner of the semi truck.  When there is an accident involving a commercial truck, the owner of that truck is liable, more specifically, jointly liable with the driver of the truck.
  • The driver of the truck.  The driver of the truck is generally jointly liable with the owner of the truck.
  • The employer of the driver.  Employers are vicariously liable for any accidents caused by its employees while they are acting within the course and scope of their employment.  If the owner of the truck is also the employer of the driver, the owner is also liable both as the owner and as the employer.  If the employer is not the owner of the truck, there is one more pocket to dip into.
  • The employer of the owner of the truck or employer of the driver.  For example, if the employer of the driver is employed by another party and the driver was acting within the scope of that employment relationship.
