Lawsuit Process Started against King Nut Companies and Peanut Corporation of America
A 72-year-old Minnesota woman was the first reported death in the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak linked to King Nut peanut butter (see below). On behalf of her heirs, attorney Fred Pritzker has started the process of a lawsuit against King Nut Companies and Peanut Corporation of America.

Fred Pritzker has been interviewed by WCCO-TV and KSTP-TV regarding this outbreak and the resulting lawsuit. "Most importantly, this lawsuit is for food safety. This is very much about making products safer," attorney Fred Pritzker told WCCO.

Minnesota Salmonella Typhimurium Infection:
Injury and Wrongful Death

Salmonella Bacteria on ProduceAlmost 500 people in 43 states have been infected with the same strain of Salmonella Typhimurium. At least 35 people in Minnesota have been sickened, including at least 2 people who died.

Minnesota and federal health officials have genetically linked King Nut Peanut Butter with this outbreak. Minnesota health officials found Salmonella in an open container of King Nut Peanut Butter from a Minnesota nursing home.

Further testing has found that the Salmonella bacteria found in the King Nut Peanut Butter is the same genetic stain of Salmonella Typhimurium that has sickened and killed (at least 3 people may have died) the victims of this outbreak.

King Nut Peanut Butter was distributed in Minnesota to establishments such as long-term care facilities, hospitals, schools, universities, restaurants, delis, cafeterias and bakeries.

King Nut Companies issued a King Nut Peanut Butter recall.

This is the second major Salmonella outbreak within 24 months involving peanut butter. This obviously suggests an industry-wide problem that needs to be addressed. The American public should not have to guess about the safety of a product beloved by children.

One has to ask why testing is so lax, especially in manufactured food such as peanut butter. This isn’t a case involving fresh produce that is difficult to test; it’s about a food product with a long shelf life that should not be allowed to leave the manufacturer unless its safety is confirmed.
