Jensen's Smoked Salmon Spread Recall

On September 8, 2007, Jensen's Old Fashioned Smokehouse Inc. recalled two smoked salmon spread products because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.  The recall includes 480 7 oz. plastic tubs of Jensens Seattle-Style Wild Smoked Salmon Spread Lemon Dill and Onion (coded "sell By 10/14/07 and 10/15/07") and 132 7 oz. plastic tubs of PCC brand Smoked Salmon Spread All Natural (coded "sell By 9/29/07").

The products were distributed in Western Washington retail stores.  According to Jensen's no illnesses have been confirmed.  This does not mean that no one has been sickened or will be sickened by these products.  The incubation period for Listeria can be as long as 70 days.  If you ate any of the recalled Jensen's smoked salmon spread or PCC smoked salmon spread, you will need to watch for symptoms of Listeria for at least 70 days after you ate the product.  Symptoms of Listeria can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.  Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
