Hepatitis VirusURGENT INFORMATION REGARDING THE LA MESA CHIPOTLE AND HEPATITIS A AND A POSSIBLE CHIPOTLE LAWSUIT: At least 21 people have contracted hepatitis A after eating at the La Mesa Chipotle in San Diego County, California.  The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) and County Department of Environmental Health (DEH) are investigating.

Because others may have been sickened, the County recommends that individuals who dined at the restaurant between March 1 and April 22, 2008 - and are symptomatic for hepatitis A - see their physician to be screened for the illness.  Hepatitis A symptoms include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal discomfort, dark urine, and jaundice.

Chipotle BurritoSan Diego County health officials are conducting interviews with restaurant employees and patients and taking blood samples to determine the source of infection, which could be either an ill person or contaminated food.  If it was a Chipotle employee who had hepatitis A, that employee could have contaminated food with his or her infected feces, and that food could have been served to patrons. This hepatitis A outbreak could also have been caused by food that was contaminated with hepatitis A before it got to the La Mesa Chipotle restaurant.  Either way, a restaurant is liable for illnesses linked to the restaurant.  We have handled several cases involving restaurant liability, including a recent hepatitis A case in Arizona.  We are a national food poisoning litigation law firm, and we handle hepatitis A cases throughout the United States.
