Shaw's Ground Beef RecallBelow is a USDA-FSIS announcement regarding a Shaw's ground beef recall involving about 884 pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, a dangerous pathogen that can cause serious illness or death.  The ground beef was sold at Shaw's grocery stores in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

New York Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products Due to Possible E. coli O157:H7 Contamination

September 5, 2007 - Fairbank Reconstruction Corp., doing business as Fairbank Farms, an Ashville, N.Y., establishment, is voluntarily recalling approximately 884 pounds of ground beef products because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

The products subject to recall include:

1.33-pound trays of “SHAW’S FRESH GROUND ROUND BEEF PATTIES, 85/15.” Each package bears the establishment number “Est. 492” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Each “Nutrition Facts” label bears a time stamp between “17:05” and “17:25” as well as a date code of “243.” 

The ground beef products were produced on Aug. 31, 2007, and were distributed to retail establishments in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.  [The "retail establishments" the ground beef was distributed to were Shaw's grocery storesIf you ate ground beef purchased from a Shaw's grocery store, you will need to watch for symptoms of E. coli poisoning, including watery or bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramping, and sometimes nausea and vomitingE. coli poisoning can quickly develop into hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) in young children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems.  Please contact your doctor immediately if you suspect E. coli poisoning.]
