Sekiya's Restaurant - Lawsuit and Lawyer
Seven cases of E. coli O157:H7 have been associated with Sekiya’s Restaurant and Delicatessen located at 2746 Kaimuki Avenue in Honolulu. According to a Hawai‘i State Department of Health (DOH) press release, all seven ate at the restaurant.
Even if environmental samples taken from the restaurant have not tested positive for E. coli O157:H7, the fact that all of the victims of the E. coli outbreak ate at Sekiya’s is legally significant. We have recently settled a food poisoning case involving a restaurant where no one food item was pinpointed as the source of the illnesses. Contact an E. coli lawyer at our law firm to discuss compensation for food poisoning in a case associated with a restaurant. Please call toll-free at 1-888-377-8900, e-mail Fred Pritzker, or submit the firm’s free case consultation form.
Timeline of E. coli Outbreak Associated with Sekiya’s Restaurant in Honolulu
December 2007 – DOH confirms six related cases of illness caused by E. coli O157:H7. All 6 people had consumed food prepared at Sekiya’s restaurant. Following the confirmation of E. coli O157:H7 cases, DOH sanitarians inspect Sekiya’s restaurant and work with management to eliminate practices that may have contributed to the illnesses. Follow-up inspections within three days of the initial investigation reveal that all
major violations had been corrected.
February 2008 – DOH confirms another case of illness caused by E. coli O157:H7. This person also consumed food prepared at Sekiya’s restaurant. DOH issues a Notice of Permit Suspension to the restaurant effective February 23, 2008. The restaurant closes to conduct intensive prevention measures.
March 2008 – DOH reinstates the permit for Sekiya’s to conduct food service operations after the restaurant passes its final inspection on March 10.
