Oklahoma E. coli Linked to Country Cottage
Lawyer for E. coli O111 Food Poisoning Lawsuit
We are representing a toddler sickened in an Oklahoma E. coli O111 outbreak has been linked to the Country Cottage restaurant in Locust Grove, OK. This Oklahoma E. coli O111 outbreak has at least 314 confirmed cases of E. coli O111. One 26-year-old man has died and several children and adults have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome and are on or were on dialysis: 9 children and 7 adults. The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is also investigating an event that took place at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK on August 16, 2008. This event was catered by the Country Cottage, and 30 people who attended the event have reported illness.
People sickened in this Oklahoma E. coli O111 outbreak are from the communities of Bixby, Pryor, Sand Springs, Locust Grove, Broken Arrow, Peggs, Tulsa, and McAlester.
Our law firm represents E. coli victims sickened after eating at restaurants. One of these clients is a toddler sickened in this outbreak who developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and is still in the hospital. Another client developed HUS in an E. coli outbreak and is in a coma.
We recently had an E. coli wrongful death settlement and are representing another family in an E. coli wrongful death lawsuit involving a restaurant.
If your family is involved in the Oklahoma E. coli outbreak, contact our law firm for Country Cottage lawsuit information: call 1-888-377-8900 (toll-free) or email attorney Fred Pritzker.
What is the connection between E. coli and hemolytic uremic syndrome?
Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is the leading cause of acute kidney failure in children and typically results as a complication of an E. coli infection. In this case, the type of E. coli is 0111.
HUS generally occurs around the eighth day after an E. coli infection and presents as diarrhea, usually bloody diarrhea. The mortality rate for HUS, which primarily affects children under 10, is between 3-7%. Among the elderly, HUS has a dire prognosis, with mortality rates up to 50%.
Because HUS can cause life-long illness and patients may need future surgeries and other medical care, compensation for HUS patients needs to include amounts for future medical expenses and future pain and suffering. Contact attorney Fred Pritzker for more information.
Who is compensated if someone dies in an E. coli outbreak?
When an E. coli outbreak tragically ends in death, the family can seek compensation from liable parties. We recently had an E. coli wrongful death settlement, and we are currently handling another E. coli wrongful death case, one involving a restaurant where a goat was slaughtered in the restaurant kitchen for ceremonial purposes.
Wrongful death cases, which are governed by wrongful death statutes, generally allow compensation for medical expenses, loss of income, loss of care and comfort and other damages. Any compensation recovered is shared by the next of kin.
