Country Cottage Lawsuit
Lawyer for E. coli Food Poisoning
Country Cottage Lawsuit and Lawyer Information: We are representing the family of a toddler who contracted an E. coli O111 infection after eating at the Country Cottage restaurant in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. The toddler developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a severe complication of an E. coli infection that can cause kidney failure, pancreatitis, brain damage and damage to other organs.
Several children and adults in this Oklahoma E. coli O111 outbreak have developed HUS and are on or were on dialysis. One 26-year-old man has died.
A Country Cottage lawsuit will involve the issue of restaurant liability. We have recently recovered compensation for victims of food poisoning outbreaks linked to restaurants. Contact us about our restaurant liability cases and a Country Cottage lawsuit.

Final Report of the Country Cottage E. coli Outbreak
The final report for the Country Cottage E. coli outbreak came out on April 9, 2009. The basic outbreak facts are as follows:
- Source of Outbreak – Country Cottage Restaurant
- Organism – E. coli O111:NM
- Confirmed Outbreak Period August 15, 2008 – August 24, 2008
- Total Number of Cases – 341
- Total Number Hospitalized – 70
- Total Number of Deaths – 1
- Introduction into Restaurant – Unknown
- Spread of the Organism within the Restaurant – Foodborne transmission likely
The findings of the epidemiologic investigation indicate:
- This was a point source outbreak originating from the Country Cottage restaurant in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.
- Because the outbreak organism was not isolated from any environmental specimen, it could not be conclusively determined how E. coli O111 was introduced into the restaurant.
- The exact mode of spread within the restaurant was not established, however, the epidemiological analyses suggests there was ongoing foodborne transmission of E. coli O111:NM to Country Cottage restaurant patrons between August 15 and August 24, 2008.
Country Cottge Lawsuit: Updates Regarding the Oklahoma E. coli Outbreak Associated with the Country Cottage Restaurant
Prior to issuing the final report, the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) issued a number of updates regarding the the E. coli outbreak linked to the Country Cottage in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, that has sickened people in Bixby, Pryor, Sand Springs, Locust Grove, Broken Arrow, Peggs, Tulsa and McAlester.
According to the OSDH updates, the department quickly narrowed the focus of its investigation into the E. coli outbreak to the Country Cottage restaurant in Locust Grove, OK.
OSDH also quickly determined that the outbreak involved E. coli 0111, a particularly virulent type of E. coli.
“This is a rare type of E. coli that is not normally found in an outbreak this large,” said State Epidemiologist Dr. Kristy Bradley.
Although news reports indicated that the source of the outbreak was the restaurant's well water, the OSDH reported on September 2, 2008 that the well water is not the source of the outbreak.
“The well water is not the source of this outbreak,” said State Epidemiologist Dr. Kristy Bradley. “We are continuing our efforts to conduct microbiological testing of food preparation and serving surfaces in the restaurant, and we continue to interview cases, as we try to establish an association with those who became ill and a potential source.”
