Stove Tip-Over Lawsuit

STOVE TIP-OVER LAWSUIT: Stove tipping has resulted in hundreds of children being burned, scaled, and crushed.  According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), stove tip-overs have caused 33 deaths.  Children are most at risk for serious injury.

A stove tip-over lawsuit could include a claim for a burn injury, traumatic brain injury, or wrongful death. Compensation could include medical expenses, loss of earnings, pain and suffering, cost of care, and other damages.  If your child has been injured or killed, you need an experienced product liability lawyer.

We are Pritzker | Ruohonen, a premier product liability law firm recognized nationally in the area of product liability, and attorneys at our firm have been interviewed by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Lawyers USA, and other publications.  In recognition of their accomplishments, attorneys Fred Pritzker and Rich Ruohonen have been named “Super Lawyers” by Law & Politics magazine.  To contact Fred and Rich for a free consultation, call toll-free at 1-888-377-8900 or submit the firm’s online-consultation form.

Stove Tip-Over Injuries and Deaths

Stove Tip-Over Resulting in Severe Burn Injury – The following are two examples of stove-tip-overs that resulted in severe burn injuries:

  • A mother in Texas was cooking chicken on a Sears stove.  When her toddler pulled down the oven door and stood on it, the stove tipped over, sending a pot of boiling water and chicken flying into the air and down on the toddler.
  • A Los Angeles woman was simmering a pot of stew on her Frigidaire stove.  The stove tipped over,  and the stew scalded her son and two nephews, who suffered third-degree burns on over half of their bodies.

Stove Tip-Over Resulting in Death – The following are two examples of stove tip-overs that resulted in infant deaths:

  • In New York, a 3-year-old tipped over a stove when trying to reach for some cookies.  The stove crushed his 18-month-old brother.
  • In Florida, an 18-year-old girl was crushed by a stove that tipped over.

We are concerned that many families may not know of the risk of stove tip-overs.  Every family should contact their stove’s manufacturer regarding an anti-tipping device and then make sure to install it.  Please let your friends and family know about this hazard.
