Some of this recalled ground beef was sold to Safeway, where is was repackaged and sold to consumers in Safeway and Vons grocery stores. Vons is owned by Safeway.

Anyone sickened in this Salmonella Newport outbreak may have claims against Safeway, Vons, Beef Packers and Cargill. Contact our lawyers about a lawsuit against Safeway, Beef Packers and Cargill seeking damages for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering and emotional distress.

Safeway Lawsuit: Epidemiological Evidence

Epidemiological and traceback investigations conducted by FSIS and CDPHE determined that there is an association between the fresh ground beef products and illnesses reported in Colorado. The illnesses were also linked through the epidemiological investigation by their uncommon pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) pattern found in PulseNet, a national network of public health and food regulatory agency laboratories coordinated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The microbiological and epidemiological evidence gathered by the Colorado Department of Public Health and other state health departments and federal health investigators is generally admissible in a court of law.

Safeway Recall of Ground Beef Products

In response to this outbreak, on August 6, 2009, Safeway recalled all fresh ground beef products sold between June 6 and July 14, 2009 at its Safeway and Vons grocery stores.

Beef Packers, Inc., Safeway's supplier, has recalled over 825,000 pounds of ground beef. Read about the Beef Packers and Cargill recall.
