Salmonella Hvittingfoss Outbreak Associated with over 40 Subway Restaurants in Illinois

Pritzker Olsen law firm is preparing to file a lawsuit on behalf of a 52-year-old resident of Tazewell County, Illinois who became ill after eating an oven-roasted chicken sub on May 11 at the Subway on 603 Jackson Street in Morton, Illinois. She was hospitalized with salmonellosis (an infection caused, in this case, by Salmonella Hvittingfoss) for several days after suffering gastroenteritis with cramping and severe vomiting.

Subway Salmonella Our client is part of an outbreak of Salmonella Hvittingfoss that surfaced in Illinois in May, 2010. An investigation into the outbreak found evidence that the illnesses were caused by consuming sandwiches made by certain Subway restaurants throughout Illinois.

As of June 21, there are 97 confirmed cases of Salmonella serotype Hvittingfoss that are part of this outbreak. The age range of confirmed cases is from 2 to 79.

People with confirmed cases of Salmonella Hvittingfoss have reported eating at Subway restaurants located in 28 counties -- Bureau, Cass, Champaign, Christian, Coles, Dekalb, DeWitt, Ford, Fulton, Henry, Knox, LaSalle, Livingston, Macon, Marshall, McLean, Moultrie, Ogle, Peoria, Rock Island, Sangamon, Schuyler, Shelby, Tazewell, Vermilion, Warren, Will and Winnebago.

Several of the people sickened in this outbreak have been hospitalized. Even if you spent one day in the hospital, you have medical expenses and lost income that should be paid by Subway. Contact our law firm about a Subway lawsuit.

Given the number of Subway locations involved in this outbreak, produce is the most likely source of the outbreak. Health officials have not pinpointed a specific food source, and we continue our own investigation into what caused this outbreak.

Even if a specific food source is not found, a restaurant is still responsible to compensate victims of a Salmonella outbreak linked to the restaurant. We resently won a case for several victims of a Salmonella outbreak associated with a restaurant where the specific food source of the outbreak was never determined.
