Consumer Alert Regarding Pistachios
FDA is advising consumers not to eat any brand of shelled or unshelled pistachios, or any food products containing pistachios, such as baked goods, trail mix, and other snack foods, until FDA determines which pistachios and pistachio products are affected by the recall being conducted by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. ("Setton"), also called Setton Farms.
Pistachio Recalls
The FDA and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) are investigating Salmonella contamination in pistachio products sold by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc, California, who has issued a recall of over 1 million pounds of its pistachio products. The recalled pistachios were used as ingredients in a variety of foods and were sold in bulk to companies that then sold them under other brand names. The result is another rash of Salmonella recalls of pistachios and products containing pistachios.
The number of recalled pistachio products has been growing daily, so please read the consumer alert above regarding the consumption of pistachios and products containing pistachios. Here is the current list of recalled pistachio products:

If you have pistachios or a product you think contains pistachios, you may want to contact the retailer to find out if they are under the recall.
The contamination involves multiple strains of Salmonella which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Salmonella Pistachio Lawsuit: 3 Elements of Proof
Many people calling the firm have questions about how the firm will prove their case. In order to proceed with a pistachio Salmonella lawsuit, our lawyers must to be able to prove the following:
- The person has salmonellosis (the disease caused by Salmonella bacterium). This is usually confirmed by testing a stool sample. Many different kinds of illnesses can cause diarrhea, fever, or abdominal cramps. Determining that Salmonella is the cause of the illness depends on laboratory tests that identify Salmonella in the stools of an infected person. These tests are sometimes not performed unless the laboratory is instructed specifically to look for the organism. We strongly suggest that you consult with a doctor if you still have symptoms.
- Your Salmonella infection was caused by pistachios or products containing pistachios. This is important because there are many different ways you can become infected with Salmonella. Thus, we have to prove that your salmonellosis came from this particular outbreak that has been linked to pistachio products sold by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc, California. To do that, your stool sample needs to undergo additional testing to see if its genetic fingerprint matches the genetic fingerprint of the other people who are part of this outbreak. This advanced testing is usually conducted by your state's health department if your stool sample tested positive for Salmonella.
- You suffered injuries or damages as a result of your
salmonellosis.
Pistachio Salmonella Lawsuit: What You Should Do Now
If you are having symptoms of Salmonella, you should consult with your doctor. If appropriate, you should provide your doctor a stool sample for testing, which will confirm whether you have a Salmonella infection (salmonellosis). To have a case, you have to be diagnosed with salmonellosis by a health professional.
As soon as you have been diagnosed with salmonellosis, please call our Salmonella litigation law firm toll-free at 1-888-377-8900 or submit the firm’s online Salmonella consultation form.
