Salmonella Agona Lawsuit
Our national Salmonella lawyers are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Agona. Many of these cases have been associated with papayas imported from Mexico by Agromod Produce, Inc., a Texas company. Prompted by the outbreak, Agromod produce has issued a papaya recall. The Salmonella Agona outbreak has sickened at least 106 people in 25 states:
Arkansas (1), Arizona (4), California (8), Colorado (1), Georgia (8), Illinois (18), Indiana (1), Kentucky (1), Louisiana (2), Massachusetts (1), Minnesota (3), Missouri (3), Nebraska (2), Nevada (1), New Jersey (1), New Mexico (3), New York (9), Ohio (1), Oklahoma (1), Pennsylvania (2), Tennessee (1), Texas (25), Virginia (2), Washington (5), and Wisconsin (2).
Our attorneys have handled serious food poisoning cases in most of these states. Our clients have suffered from acute gastroenteritis (AGE), Reiter’s syndrome (a form of arthritis), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), meningitis (infection of the brain and spinal cord), sepsis (infection of the blood, also called septicemia) and death.
Salmonella Agona
Salmonella Agona is one of thousands of serotypes of Salmonella bacteria. Most persons infected with Salmonella Agona develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12–72 hours after infection. Infection is usually diagnosed by culture of a stool sample. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Salmonella causes the illness salmonellosis. In some cases, salmonellosis can cause serious illness. Infants, elderly persons, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely than others to develop severe illness. When severe infection occurs, Salmonella may spread from the intestines to the bloodstream and then to other body sites, and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics.
