The nationwide Salmonella enteritidis outbreak has sickened hundreds of people throughout the United States. This outbreak has been linked to eggs produced by Wright County Egg in Galt, Iowa. The victims of this outbreak all been sickened by a genetically identical strain of Salmonella enteritidis with PFGE pattern JEGXX01.0004.

Victims have consumed the contaminated eggs at restaurants, events and at home. This means that possible liable parties (companies that would have to pay compensation to victims) include the following:

  • Wright County Egg
  • Restaurants (several are involved)
  • Retailers (depending on how the eggs were packaged and marketed)

Wright County Egg: The producer of a contaminated product is responsible to those sickened, and processors have insurance to cover outbreak situations. A traceback found many of these restaurants or events received shell eggs from a single firm, Wright County Egg, in Galt, Iowa.

Grocery Stores: Wright County Egg recalled almost 3 million eggs that were distributed throughout the United States under a number of brands, including the following:

  • Ralph’s
  • Boomsma’s
  • Sunshine
  • Hillandale
  • Trafficanda
  • Farm Fresh
  • Shoreland
  • Lund
  • Dutch Farms
  • Kemps
