Egg Lawsuit Information

Pritzker Olsen law firm has filed an egg lawsuit on behalf of victims of a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak associated with eggs produced by Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa and Hillandale Farms of Iowa. Evidence has implicated the companies in a nationwide outbreak of Salmonella enteritidis infections with the PFGE pattern JEGXX01.0004.

The lawsuit alleges negligence in the following:

  • Failure to produce, distribute, store and maintain egg products safely
  • Failure to maintain sanitary conditions including proper hand and surface cleaning
  • failure to prevent cross-contamination of food
  • Failure to implement and supervise a system for assuring the safe production and handling of food products
  • Failure to test egg products
  • Failure to train and properly supervise food handlers

Victims have consumed the contaminated eggs at restaurants, events and at home. This means that possible liable parties (companies that would have to pay compensation to victims) include the following:

  • Wright County Egg or Hillandale Farms, the processors of the eggs
  • Restaurants (at least 15 may be involved)
  • Retailers (depending on how the eggs were packaged and marketed)

Egg Processors: Preliminary information indicates that Wright County Egg, in Galt, Iowa, was an egg supplier to 15 restaurants and events involved in this Salmonella outbreak. A formal traceback conducted by state partners in California, Colorado, and Minnesota, in collaboration with FDA and CDC, found that shell eggs from five of these restaurants or events were from a single firm, Wright County Egg in Galt, Iowa. Hillandale Farms eggs have also been implicated in this outbreak. The producer of a contaminated product is responsible to those sickened, and producers have insurance to cover outbreak situations.

Restaurants: Restaurants can be sued for compensation by people who are sickened by their food. If Wright County Egg or Hillandale Farms was a supplier to the restaurant, our lawyers will determine if both the restaurant and the egg supplier can be sued.

Grocery Stores: Wright County Egg has now recalled over 300 million eggs that were distributed throughout the United States under a number of brands, including the following:

  • Lucerne
  • Albertson
  • Mountain Dairy
  • Ralph’s
  • Boomsma’s
  • Sunshine
  • Hillandale
  • Trafficanda
  • Farm Fresh
  • Shoreland
  • Lund
  • Dutch Farms
  • Kemps

Another egg recall by Hillandale Farms involves the following brands:

  • Hillandale Farms
  • Sunny Farms
  • Sunny Meadow
  • Wholesome Farms
  • West Creek
