Salmonella Urinary Tract Infection - Salmonella in Urine
Some strains of Salmonella are found more often in the urine of the infected person than in the stools. When Salmonella is found in the urine, the patient most often has a Salmonella-associated urinary tract infection.
There are many infections associated with Salmonella. The generalized term for a Salmonella infection is salmonellosis. Associated with salmonellosis are several groups of infections, including: gastroenteritis, septicemia (sepsis), enteric fever, and urinary tract infections. Salmonellosis can also lead to Reiter’s syndrome, a form of arthritis.
When salmonellosis manifests itself as a urinary tract infection, it may be an indication that damage has been done to kidneys. Renal failure (kidney failure), although rare, can be caused by salmonellosis (Salmonella infection).
According to studies conducted by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), a vast majority of the patients who suffer Salmonella-associated urinary tract infections are infants, people over 60, people with weakened immune systems, people with underlying urologic abnormalities, and people who handle exotic animals.
If you or a family member has a Salmonella-associated urinary tract infection, contact Pritzker | Ruohonen about a Salmonella lawsuit.
