72-year-old Shirley Mae Almer of Minnesota was the first reported death in the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak linked to King Nut peanut butter (see below). Peanut ButterCDC is reporting almost 500 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium in over 40 states linked to King Nut peanut butter and other peanut butter products. At least 33 people in Minnesota have become seriously ill. Health officials report 2 deaths in Minnesota that may be associated with this Salmonella outbreak. Three other deaths have also been reported, 2 in Virgina and one in Idaho.
