Building a Winning Case
What our Salmonella attorneys do to build a winning case for you is to first rigorously investigate where your particular Salmonellainfection came from. It might be from raw eggs, sprouts, lettuce, or another food product. You may have eaten it at home, at an event, at a restaurant, in the hospital or anywhere.
Our attorneys also thoroughly examine your medical records to quantify your future medical expenses and future risks from your case of Salmonella and its complications. Their background, experience and relationship with scientific experts allows them to maximize recovery for our clients.
Salmonella Complications and Victim Compensation
"Salmonella" is an umbrella term for hundreds of different strains of Salmonella that cause human illness. Salmonella is dangerous to humans because it causes painful and extreme symptoms in people, including abdominal cramping, vomiting and diarrhea.
In severe cases, Salmonella can cause Reiter's syndrome, a reactive arthritis that may cause permanent damage. About 10 percent of people with Reiter's syndrome develop heart problems.
Salmonella personal injury lawsuits generally seek compensation for the following:
- Hospital bills and other medical expenses
- Lost income
- Pain and suffering
- Emotional distress
- Disability
- Loss of quality of life
- Other damages
Salmonella food poisoning is particularly dangerous for elderly people. Attorney Fred Pritzker has represented several families of people who died from Salmonella infections. These cases involve Salmonella wrongful death claims against a food manufacturer, restaurant or another company that was responsible for the Salmonella infection.

Proving a Salmonella Lawsuit
Under our system of law, a person injured by Salmonella food poisoning has to prove three things in order to make a successful strict liability claim:
- The Food was Contaminated with Salmonella - There has to be some evidence that the food was contaminated with Salmonella. This can be done with micribiological evidence (e.g., Salmonella is found in a sample of the food) and/or epidemiological evidence (e.g., dozens of people who ate at the same restaurant around the same time contracted Salmonella infections).
- Causation - The contaminated food actually caused the food poisoning victim's illness, in this case salmonellosis.
- Damages – As a result of the food poisoning, the person was harmed physically, mentally and financially.
