Semi Tractor Trailer Rig Loses Control in Texas, Killing Two

Family and friends in Orange, Texas, are mourning the loss of two people after the two died at the scene of a horrific semi-truck crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a press release saying that a Kenworth truck tractor semitrailer towing heavy-duty construction equipment went across the concrete divider into the eastbound traffic lanes on Interstate 10 and collided head-on with the Ford pickup. The driver and passenger in the pickup were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to news accounts, the fatal collision happened at 12:15 p.m. on I-10 near Vidor, Texas. The release said a flatbed truck was westbound in the inside lane of the freeway, and the Kenworth rig was traveling behind the flatbed. When the flatbed slowed down, it was rear-ended by the tractor-trailer. The heavy truck and trailer then careened across the concrete divider into the eastbound lanes, striking the Blevins vehicle, head-on. The initial report about the driver of the semi-truck described him as a 33-year-old man from Louisiana. He, himself, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The powerful combination of a truck’s large mass and speed, along with the potential to impact many vehicles, make semi truck tractor trailer collisions much more serious than other highway accidents. Professional truckers are paid to keep their rigs under control and public safety law demands it. Any rear-end accident resulting in the loss of life raises serious questions about the truck driver’s awareness and whether distractions or inattentiveness contributed to the resulting crash. An elite truck accident lawyer has the experience, tools and knowledge to investigate crash factors. Next of kin have the right to sue a trucking company, truck driver, freight customer, the manufacturer of the truck, cab, trailer or any truck part, or sue the truck’s maintenance provider depending on the circumstances and severity of the crash.

It’s imperative for families in wrongful death cases to quickly hire a lawyer to preserve evidence and to get busy on an independent investigation. Trucking companies hire experienced attorneys who specialize in truck accident cases to fight liability and limit their damages. You will need a skilled and experienced attorney to keep your family’s interests at the forefront of the case, where they belong.
