Gas Explosion in Salem Township

On April 29, 2016, at around 8 a.m., a natural gas pipeline explosion created a massive fireball in Salem Township, Pennsylvania. One man was severely burned. He was in his home when he heard the blast, which was 500 yards away. He got out and ran from the fire, but the heat from the fire burned him as he ran. His home was leveled.

Witnesses describe the explosion in the video below. One of them is the owner of a house, the siding of which melted, even though the house was one-half mile away.

The video below shows the aftermath of the explosion. It looks like a war zone, and clearly the man who was burned would not be alive if he had stayed in the house.

The gas line was owned by Spectra Energy.

U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is heading up the investigation into the cause of the explosion.
