Fitchburg House Explosion Critically Injures Wisconsin Man

Last night a house explosion in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, critically injured a 57-year-old man. He was pulled from the debris outside of his house by fire fighters.

The home on Cheryl Drive and Fish Hatchery Road, in the Tower Hills subdivision, was completely destroyed.

Firefighters responded at about 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016. It was a “highly significant explosion,” according to Fitchburg Fire Department Chief Joe Pulvermacher.

There was a gas leak at the house when firefighters arrived, but it is too early in the investigation to know if the leak caused the explosion.

People miles away felt the blast.

“We look back at an explosion in Sun Prairie in 2010 that killed a 26-year-old man and injured 2 others, one of whom was paralyzed. The explosion was believed to have been caused by a gas leak. The victims won a $5-million-dolar settlement from a local heating company that had installed a new furnace in the home less than a week before the explosion,” noted WISC-TV in the video above.
