Bus rollover Kills 8, Injures 44 Others

A tragic bus rollover killed 8 people and injured 44 others.

The names of those killed were released today by Webb County (Laredo Morning Times).

All of the victims were from the Rio Grande Valley. They were picked up by the bus in either Brownsville or Hildalgo.

The accident happened as the OGA Charters bus was traveling northbound on Highway 83 in Webb County:

“The bus, carrying 51 passengers, was heading to the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel in Eagle Pass, said Ricardo A. Rangel, Webb County Volunteer Fire Department chief. OGA Charters, based in San Juan in Hidalgo County, owns the bus” (Laredo Morning Times).

The driver lost control and rolled over, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Initially, 23 of the injured people were taken to Doctors Hospital in Laredo, and 21 others were sent to other hospitals in Dimmit County. Of the 44, 14 were transferred to hospitals in San Antonio for treatment.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) go-team investigators arrived this morning, May 15, 2016.  Pete Kotowski is the investigator-in-charge.
