Detroit Area Hotel Events Associated with Cyclospora Outbreak

Our lawyers are helping people sickened after eating at events at a Detroit area hotel from June 23 and 26, 2014.  Health officials suspect food contaminated with Cyclospora parasites was served at the events. These parasites cause cyclosporiasis, an illness characterized by severe, watery diarrhea that is often explosive.

Your Doctor May Not Test for Cyclospora

Some of the people sickened in the outbreak may have gone to the doctor and not have been tested for a Cyclospora infection. This is because most doctors are not familiar with cyclosporiasis. If you ate food at a Detroit hotel from June 23 to 26 and have bad diarrhea, you should immediately seek medical attention. Ask to be tested and tell your doctor about the outbreak. Please note that the incubation period for Cyclospora is 2 to 14 days.

Your doctor should be told that the Michigan Department of Community Health wants to be notified of all individuals identified with diarrhea lasting more than a week and a history of visiting a hotel in Romulus, Michigan from June 23 to 26.
